Syracuse Scandal

ESPN is reporting that that Syracuse assistant coach Bernie Fine molested a team ball boy beginning in 1983. The alleged victim, Bobby Davis, said the abuse went on for more than 12 years. Davis said the abuse happened at fine's home, Syracuse's basketball facilities, and on road trips including the 1987 final four. According to the victim, fine molested him until he was twenty-seven years old. Bobby Davis said he reported the abuse to Syracuse police in 2003, but a detective told him that the statute of limitations had run out. Davis said he was fine's constant companion and that head coach Jim Boeheim would come into fine's room and see Davis lying on the bed but never asked him any questions. Davis said he has felt bitter emotions over the molestation over the year. It has also been reported that a second man has come forward with information alleging that fine also molested him.

            Syracuse University released a statement late tonight.

"On hearing of the allegation in 2005, the university immediately launched its own comprehensive investigation through its legal counsel. That nearly four-month long investigation included a number of interviews with people the complainant said would support his claims. All of those identified by the complainant denied any knowledge of wrongful conduct by the associate coach. The associate coach also vehemently denied the allegations."

Syracuse basketball head coach released this statement late tonight.

            "Bernie has my full support" and the "matter was fully investigated by the university in 2005 and it was determined that the allegations were unfounded."

            At this time Bernie Fine has been placed on administrative leave. The Syracuse Police have reopened the case concerning Bobby Davis. Eyewitness news contacted both Syracuse University and the Syracuse Police department, neither was available for comment.
