VERNON — Jim Furyk got a look at Atunyote Golf Club last weekend, even if it wasn't under the best of circumstances. And the former U.S. Open champion was impressed.Furyk sought treatment for his sore back Saturday and Sunday from Tom LaFountain, the Director of Chiropractic Services for the PGA Tour. LaFountain, who is based in New Hartford, asked Oneida Indian Nation officials if he and Furyk could meet at Atunyote to work on the 2003 U.S. Open champion's swing.
"Tom and Jim came in Saturday at around 5:15 p.m., and they putted and chipped a little," said Robert Todd, the director of golf services for Turning Stone Resort. "You could tell Mr. Furyk was uncomfortable. He would hit some shots and then they would ice down his back."
