One area high school student is making moves for his college career.

Derek bard, a senior at New Hartford High School signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf for the University of Virginia.

He will be going on a full golf scholarship. Derek is the reigning high school champion. He's won the section 3 championship three years in a row.

He says his dream of playing for a college team has finally come true.

"I always wanted to play pro. This was the step to take to play at a Division 1 college to play at a good school. They contacted me back in September so it's been over a year until now. It's been a long time and finally to get this off my chest and focus on golf is a good thing," said Bard.

Derek says one of the reasons he picked Virginia is because of the nice weather. He says he's been playing golf since he was four-years-old.
