And the American Red Cross isn't only about donating blood. It's also
offering a variety of workshops including a 6-hour babysitter's training
class. The Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley says babysitting is often a
teenager's first job, and teaching them the basic skills to safely
babysit children is very important.
"We talk to them about what to do about choking incidents, we talk to them about 'stranger danger,' we talk to them about safety within the homes, how to handle different home environments that they may have, and basically it just makes them prepared as their world gets bigger, for the challenges that they may be met with as they're out caring for children," says Nancy Crisino, babysitting class instructor.
The training class includes hands-on activities, videos, role-plays, and group discussions. The cost of the class is $85.00, which includes a Babysitter's Training Certificate from the American Red Cross, handbook and CD ROM. Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch. To register, call 1-800-733-2767, or visit www.redcross.org/take-a-class.
