One area man has started a non-profit organization to help create job opportunities for the disadvantaged.

It's being called the "Economic Opportunities for Distressed Communities Project," helping areas that suffer from severe unemployment and underemployment.

The mission is to maximize benefits of equal opportunity on public works projects in the construction industry.

"It's important to have an organization that has been able to identify the critical needs.  To bring the disadvantaged that includes veterans, minorities into the working trade where they can work and earn a good wage at the same time accomplish the type of training that is necessary for the employer," said James Kernan.

People who think they qualify or contractors interested in the project, you can find more information at economiccornerstone.org.
