Not touching them all proves costly for Adirondack

By: Staff. Veteran Adirondack softball coach Tom Maurer thought he had seen it all in his career.
But Maurer had never seen anything like what happened in the bottom of the seventh inning of Adirondack’s Section III Class B final against Solvay on Saturday at the Gillette Road Complex.
With the game tied at 2-2 in the seventh, Adirondack senior standout Halie Tyler hit an apparent game-winning double down the left field line that looked to score pinch runner Suzanne Jokajtys from second base.
Jokajtys approached homeplate and then jumped into the waiting arms of her celebrating teammates. But the umpires and Solvay coach Phil Merrill noticed that Jokajtys had not touched homeplate as her foot had come up a few inches short. Solvay players also noticed it and tagged out Jokajtys to extend the game. Full story at the Rome Sentinel.
