The Oneonta Tigers couldn’t finish what Chris Carlson started Tuesday in a 4-2 New York-Penn League loss at Staten Island.
With
the Tigers trailing, 4-1, Carlson led off the ninth inning with a home
run to center field off Jonathan Ortiz. After yielding Carlson’s eighth
homer this season, the Yankees reliever sent the next three Oneonta
batters down in order to earn his sixth save this season.
Ortiz,
who replaced Craig Heyer at the start of the ninth, struck out Casper
Wells, got Devin Thomas to fly out to center, then erased Kody Kaiser
with a groundout to first to end it. Oneonta’s loss guaranteed the
Tigers would not win a series for the first time since losing two of
three games against Hudson Valley, from July 7-9. The Tigers had won
six consecutive series before starting their three-game set at Staten
Island on Monday. Oneonta lost, 3-2, in Monday’s series opener. The two
teams close their series tonight. Oneonta then hosts a three-game set
starting Thursday against the Brooklyn Cyclones. Full story at The Daily Star.
