UTICA — The District V champion Whitestown
Post's first game in the State tournament was memorable, but they came
up just short of a huge come-from-behind win. After mounting several comebacks during the District V playoffs, Whitestown (30-11) mounted yet another comeback, but could not completely overcome Shrub Oaks Post (24-14) in the first round of the New York State American Legion Baseball Tournament Wednesday at Murnane Field, losing 9-8 in 10 innings.
Head coach Paul Engelhart said the team never gave up even when they had six outs to score eight runs as it trailed 8-0 going into the bottom of the eighth.
"We were in familiar territory," he said. "We've been down in a lot of games this year and came back to win and almost did today. We didn't hang our heads and fought back." Full story at UticaOD.com
