The Central New York Roller Derby League will open it's 2012 home season on Satruday night at the Kennedy Arena in Rome. Doors will open at 5 pm for a double header of derby action. The first whistle will blow at 5:30 as the men's derby team, the Utica Quadfathers host the Mass Maelstrom. Following that bout the women take the floor as the Utica Clubbers play against the Blue Collar Betties.
CNYRD is made up of three local teams; the Clubbers, the Betties and the Rome Wreckers, that play home bouts against each other during the summer months until a home champion is crowned. The best players in league also compete as part of two traveling all-star teams, the CNY All-Stars and the Wonder Brawlers.
Tickets for Saturday night's event are $10 at the door or $8 in advance and are available at the Tramontane Cafe or Cafe Domenico.
