Make room for another Schulte.

Oneonta resident Kurt Schulte, 49, shot a 1-under-par 71 on Sunday at the Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown to earn his first Atchinson Cup with a two-day total of 146 in the 30th annual Otsego County Amateur Golf Championship.

Schulte overcame a five-hole stretch that included three double-bogeys and a bogey to beat his son, Matt, by one stroke. Matt Schulte shot a 73 Sunday, en route to a 147.

Kurt Schulte is the fourth member of his family to have his name etched onto the Atchinson Cup, joining brother Alan (1982, 1983, 1985), father Harry (1989, 1993) and 2005 winner Matt.

"Personally, it was a roller-coaster ride," Kurt Schulte said. "I didn’t start out playing well and I was inconsistent."  Full story at The Daily Star.
