Tonight Central New Yorkers participated in Take Back the Night in an effort to stop domestic violence. This international event helps raise awareness of domestic violence. The YWCA of the Mohawk Valley hosted the event from Utica's City Hall. Tonight's rally included a candle light vigil and testimony from people affected by domestic violence. Two of the attendees were cousins of Kylie Turczyn, who was murdered by a former boyfriend in June.
Kylie's cousin Desiree says, "It gives me strength to know that knowing and seeing what happened to her can really change my life."
Miranda says, "It's showing that everyone's here to support the people that have physically or verbally abused in any way domestically violently or sexually. It's important to me because it shows that I have the courage to come here and do what's right for my cousin."
The YWCA has held Take Back the Night for over twenty years.
