Students at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School had a special visitor Monday morning.

Utica Mayor, Robert Palmieri joined Utica fire officials to talk about a special event coming to the city.

He announced the first ever "Public Safety Day" will be happening on October 27th at City Hall.

The day will let children and adults take a closer look at what exactly their fireman and police do.

"I want the kids to be able to feel at any point when they see a firefighter or a police officer, that it's somebody that helps them and that it's a very open relationship," said Mayor Palmieri.

The Public Safety Day will be from 11 to 3 next Saturday and the event is free and open to the public.
