Domestic Violence Awareness Month; Clothesline Project at HCCC

It's in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the project displays self expression of the violence affecting our community. The clothesline displays t-shirts made by victims or those affected by domestic violence. And students can also talk with advocates from the Domestic Violence Program of Herkimer County.
"They may say he just punches the wall, or he just called me a name or something like that. But that's also domestic violence. Its not always physical so that's where this comes into play. There is a lot of physical but we also see the emotional, verbal, and economic abuse that goes along with it," says Katie Johnston, Domestic Violence Awareness advocate.
The Clothesline Project started back in the 1980's and was inspired by the AIDS quilt. It has since grown to more than 500 clothesline projects across the country.
A Domestic Violence Program of Herkimer County representative will be
on-campus with an information table in the Robert McLaughlin College
Center on the following dates:
Tuesday, October 16 Noon-2pm
Thursday, October 18 Noon-2pm
Monday, October 22 9-11am

Tuesday, October 30 Noon-2pm
The public is invited to participate. For more information contact the HCCC Counseling Office at (315) 866-0300 ext. 8374.
