Two Utica Councilman are looking to raise awareness on two projects that will affect the City of Utica.

According to Councilmen Jim Zecca and Frank Vescera, a rail company is considering operating a train service between New York City and Lake Placid that would run through Utica.

The two also have concerns about the mayor's plan to revamp Downtown Utica.

Zecca says the Genesee Street project is an overall good one, but says they've received a lot of calls about what it entails.

As for the potential train service, this is something both councilmen say needs to be embraced and would be good for the Utica area.

"This would open it up to people that are handicapped, people that are seniors that wouldn't be able to hike or get into the most wilderness parts of the Adirondacks and they would have an opportunity through a rail line," said Zecca.

To get dialogue going on the proposal, the two are looking to create The Utica Rail Summit.

This would be a group effort to create support with the community and all other stakeholders involved for the rail initiatives in both Utica and the Adirondacks.
