Miners split doubleheader with Bennington

LITTLE FALLS- It was a split Decision for the Little Falls Miners Wednesday night at Vet's Park in two seven inning games.
The Miners won game 1 against Bennington, 2-1, but dropped the nightcap 7-3. The Miners record is now 3-2.
In game one Isaac Johnson (South Dakota State University) pitched six innings to get the victory. Johnson (2-0) gave up one earned run, on five hits, while striking out five and walking two. Dan Rossignol (Rhode
Island) came in with a runner on first and pitched the seventh to pick up the save.
In the bottom of the third Tom Edwards (Rutgers) hit an infield RBI single scoring Aaron Roberts (Southern Illinois Carbondale) making it 1-0 Miners.
The Bombers tied it up on Ethan Paquette's RBI single in the fourth, plating Adam Donato.
In the bottom of the fifth with runners on second and third and one out, Edwards hit a dribbler to first base, Bombers first baseman Paquette's throw to second went into left field allowing Roberts to score the eventual winning run.
Game two did not go well for the Miners as they musted up only one hit.
The Bombers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on Anthony Rinaldi's two-run single.
With Bennington up 3-1 in the bottom of the third the Miners scored two un-earned runs as Roberts and Calvin Sanchez walked then scored later in the inning to tie the game at three. Then came the sixth inning.
The Bombers scored four runs in the sixth to take a 7-3 lead as the Miners made two errors. Zach Halloran and Rinaldi had RBI singles in the sixth for the Bombers.
Bennington pitchers Tommy Mejia (4 innings, 0 hits, 3 runs, five strikeouts, 6 walks) and Josh Willimott (3 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 2 strikeouts, 2 walks) kept the Miners in check. Roberts broke up the Bennington no-hitter in the bottom of the seventh.
The two teams combined for eight hits, and eight errors. Miners pitcher Kurt Hayer (0-1) took the loss.
The Miners (3-2) have an early turnaround as they travel to Watertown tomorrow afternoon, for a 1pm start, and return home Friday night to face Saratoga at 7pm.
