MINERS WIN FIRST ROAD GAME 4-3
Win Second Straight To Improve to 5-5
The Little Falls Miners won their first game on the road this summer, 5-4, scoring two runs in the top of the ninth to beat Amsterdam Tuesday night.
It was the Miners second win over the Mohawks in three days, and three of Little Falls five wins are against Amsterdam.
With Amsterdam up 3-2 in the top of the ninth the Miners (5-5) rally started with a Mike Augustine (Boston College) walk. Mark Ortega (Boston College) pinch ran for Augustine, and advanced to second on a wild pitch with one out. Luke Enman (St. Joseph's of Maine) followed with a walk, then Matt Leskiw (VCU) hit a two-run double scoring Ortega and Enman, making it 4-3 Miners.
Brian Mastin (Barry) picked up the win for Little Falls on the mound.
The Miners went up 2-0 in the fourth when James Donaldson (Northeastern) hit a ground ball to Mohawk's pitcher Boylan, who then made a bad throw to third allowing Richard Gonzalez (VCU) to score. Later in the inning Augustine hit an RBI single scoring Tom Edwards (Rutgers).
Amsterdam (2-7) tied it in the bottom of the fifth on two Little Falls errors making it 2-2.
The Miners improved to 5-5 overall, and 1-3 on the road.
The game started around 7:40, and there was nearly a two-hour rain delay in the sixth inning.
Little Falls is back at home Wednesday (June 20th) as they face Watertown.
It's $1 night at Vet's park with students and senior citizen's tickets $1, and all night hot dogs and soda are $1 for everyone in attendance. For more information call the Miners office at 315-867-4107.
