Divide Over Skellytown Council Candidate

"When he ran, when he got mayor, there were no problems.. The city was running better, a little bit better, than it is right now," a Skellytown woman said. She did not want to be identified.
Mills was elected for two terms as the head of the Skellytown City Council. In 2007, right after being sworn in for his second term as mayor, Mills resigned. He felt it was the right thing to do after having pleaded guilty to indecency with a child months before that election, Mills said Tuesday.
"I don't even know how he can stand to face the public. I really don't," said resident Jaime Franks. "The mayor, the city council members these are people the kids need to be able to look up to."
Because of the rules of the deferred adjudication Mills received after his plea, he is clear to run for office and vote, the Hutchinson County District Attorney said. He will no longer be considered a felon after his five year probation is up which happens next month.
Many in Skellytown feel Mills has already put his time in.
"I have no trouble with him being a single mom... as long as he does what right for the city. There are problems that need to be fixed and I think he's willing to do it," the Skellytown woman said.
