Davenport Wins Houston County Probate Judge's Race

By: Stephen Crews
Updated: March 20, 2012
Patrick Davenport has been elected probate judge of Houston County. Davenport is a Dothan attorney who defeated Starla Moss Matthews in Tuesday's election.

Davenport will start working January 1st, since  there isn't a democrat to oppose him in the November general election ballot. Davenport was endorsed by retiring probate judge Luke Cooley.

Davenport said that he considered himself the underdog in the race. He said, "My opponent had a lot of name recognition and she did an exceptional job in the office she currently holds. I felt like that would be difficult to overcome. But I was grateful that my message was communicated to the people in such a way that they understood what I was bringing to the table."

Starla Matthews will continue serving as Houston County's Revenue Commissioner.
