A Grammy-Award winning county star made a visit to Utica tonight.

Larry Gatlin put on a performance at Mohawk Valley Community College and Eyewitness News got to talk one-on-one with the singer, as well as a diehard fan.

Carol Haylette has been a fan for 40 years and says she still gets the same giddy feeling every time she sees her favorite country star.

"I got so excited! My daughter called me up and I said I have to find someone with a computer that can give me the tickets," said Haylette.

Carol landed the tickets the next day and even ran into her idol before Wednesday night's show.

And, she wasn't the only one who enjoyed the encounter.

"It makes me feel good. I saw them on the way in and they said they had pictures. How lucky can a man be that people pay money for you to come here and do something you love to do, and they've been doing it for a long time. I'm humbled by it and very grateful," said the Grammy country star, Larry Gatlin.

Gatlin has been putting his voice to use since the age of six.

Eyewitness News asked him if he would have ever though he'd be here in the Mohawk Valley?

"Utica? No, I didn't think I'd be in Utica! I didn't know about Utica when I was six," said Gatlin.

He may not have expected to be in the "Renaissance City," but Gatlin says he knew he was going to make it someday.

"I knew that when I was a kid that something was going to happen because we loved it too much. We were good at it, and people enjoyed it when we sang for them," said Gatlin.
