Efforts to Raise Minimum Wage

By: Joe Parker
Updated: February 7, 2012

The Assembly Majority today broadened the reach of its campaign to increase the state minimum wage to $8.50 with the launch of a Raise the Wage NY website and Facebook page.

Speaker Sheldon Silver said, "The Assembly Majority is committed to raising income and increasing financial security for New York's working families, and these new resources will aid in spreading the message to communities around the state."

These online resources feature information about the positive impacts of a raise, links to videos and news related to the campaign, a map of minimum wages around the country, text from the proposed legislation, and the opportunity to sign a petition supporting this important and long-overdue relief for New York's low wage workers.

"I urge New Yorkers to sign the petition, and voice their support for their hardworking friends and neighbors," said Speaker Silver.  "Rebuilding the middle class and restoring the path from minimum wage work to financial security will take the support of many."
