Rome man hospitalized trying to avoid deer

A Rome man is in the hospital after trying to avoid hitting a deer.
Oneida County Deputies say 29-year-old Robert Smith was driving on Rome New London Road in the City of Rome when he came across a deer.
Smith swerved to avoid striking the deer and struck a mailbox and sign before landing in a ditch.
Smith was sent to Rome Memorial Hospital after complaining of head and back pain.
