It's National Infant Immunization Week

It's National Infant Immunization week and the Oneida County Health Department is encouraging all parents and guardians to make sure their child is up-to-date on their scheduled vaccines.
The health department says newborns need to be immunized against fourteen preventable diseases before they reach their 2nd birthday.
But, healthcare professionals say they recognize why some parents may be hesitant about vaccinating their children.
"Parents say kids get autism. It comes out when they are ages 12 to 15 months. That's when the get shots. I can see where parents say kids get autisms from the shots, but there is no medical proof," explained Marina Kistner of the Oneida County Health Department.
Doctors say parents and others who have contact with infants should be vaccinated as well, to provide a protective environment for the child.
