Police are still investigating a four hour standoff where an Ilion man barricaded himself inside his home on the 100-block of East Main Street.

Officials say a 24-year-old man may have been high on bath salts at the time of the incident Sunday afternoon.

The Village of Ilion police say the man threatened officials, but surrendered himself hours later.

Police Chief Timothy Parisi says this isn't their first time dealing with the synthetic drug.

"Protecting communities is an evolving process so bath salts and the introduction of new substances people use for euphoric highs or whatever they are feeling is one facet of the whole evolution of what is taking place," said Chief Parisi.

Police say they are still waiting to confirm if the man was under the influence of bath salts.
