In celebration of National Fire Prevention Week, which wraps up today,
fire prevention teams from Whitesboro, Yorkville, and New York Mills are
visiting elementary schools to spread fire safety awareness.
But they're not teaching students fire safety in a traditional classroom setting; firemen are teaching students fire safety through hands-on entertainment.
"It relates more to the children. They can understand something in a more fun, energetic manner then just watching videos, or getting leaflets. It brings it to life. We are trying to teach them fire prevention this year; Know 2 Ways Out, it's for fire safety in the home or in the school," says Michael Geller, Whitesboro Fire Prevention Chairman.
Know 2 Ways Out is this year's safety theme and the fire prevention teams stress the importance of having safety plans in place at home and at school.
