For more than thirty years the First Presbyterian Churchin Utica has served Thanksgiving Day meals. Today, the church served a thousand people between deliveries and in-house. The church says it delivered more than 600 meals this afternoon. Hundreds of volunteers spent a week preparing the traditional meal. And volunteers serve for a variety of reasons.
William Ervin volunteered for the 4th time this year, he says, "I come to volunteer because it feels good, it's something I do and I'm a Christian. According to the words of God in the Bible as often as you do this and you feed the people and you cloth the people that you do it unto God."
Interim Pastor Patricia Schick says, "To feed people especially in these times, I think it's becoming more and more important. But I think the fellowship is also something, its Thanksgiving Day and they want to be around people"
The Church served meals until 2 P.M.
