Throwing objects onto the ice is normally not allowed at a Utica College hockey game. This Saturday is a bit different - for the 8th annual Teddy Bear Toss game. When Utica College scores their first goal fans get to toss stuffed animals onto the ice. The nationally ranked pioneers welcome in buffalo state to the aud. Last year Utica beat Salve Regina 12-0 and Ridge Garbutt scored the famed first goal.
Ridge says, "It's definitely a game you mark on your calendar, the highlight of the year up to this point for sure. You know every person from school from the city is going to be there and it's a really special night."
12th year head coach Gary Heenan says, "It's an unbelievable night for a number of reasons. A, anytime you can put a smile on a kids face we're happy to do that and to be able to host this event in its 8th year, it's really become a city tradition."
The puck drops at 7 PM from the Aud.
