Children at Hughes Elementary in Utica got a special visit today from a four-legged friend.
Students have been raising money for "Pennies for Pets," a fundraising effort for the Stevens-Swan Humane Society.
Tuesday afternoon, Jerry Kraus of the organization wanted to thank the students and explained how the money would be helping the humane society.
"It gives them a good sense of responsibility in the community. Everyone loves dogs, cats, and pets. Everyone has one. A lot of the students do. They feel like they can help and it feels good to see that" said Hughes teacher and organizer of the event, Andrew Cohen.
There was some friendly competition among all the classrooms. We're told over $490 was raised and $7,000 total has been raised in UCSD and Notre Dame School.
