Some Centro passengers will no longer have to wait outside in the cold to catch the bus.

The new Multi-Modal Transportation Center located on 15 Elizabeth Street will be opening this Monday. Officials say they'll be getting rid of five stops in downtown Utica.

The executive director of Centro says the bus hub will be safer for riders who currently cross four lanes of traffic to catch their next bus.

"Traffic will be well-managed, controlled. There will be one central platform or island where the folks can step off one bus and walk across the wide sidewalk and get onto the next bus. The buses will be dispatched out onto the street in an orderly or managed fashion," said Frank Kobliski.

Bus stops at Franklin Square, Lafayette Street, Elizabeth Street and stops in front of APAC and the Radisson Hotel will be no more starting on Monday.
