UCSD could be facing steeper cuts

As Eyewitness News has reported, The Utica City School District could be facing some steep cuts in the upcoming school year.

According to Superintendent, Bruce Karam, 88 total positions are on the chopping block, but there could be more.

If the sequester goes into effect, the school district could lay off around 12 to 15 more teachers.

Mr. Karam says they are also projecting to lose another $650,000 to $750,000.

"It's going to hit us and reduce our aid even more at a time between charter schools taking our money and not getting our fair share in foundation state aid that we are supposed to receive. This will be like a horrible perfect storm," said Karam.

Although the district is facing these possible additional cuts, Mr. Karam says they are trying to stay positive.
