(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) It's a seven-hundred-plus-percent tax increase, and it's got the support of Missouri's public school boards.
Brent Ghan of the Missouri School Boards Association explains why the group is asking for a "yes" vote on Proposition B.
"Half the money raised by this tobacco tax increase would go to public education," he said. "That would certainly not solve our funding problems here in Missouri, but it would go a long way to helping schools"
If passed, Proposition B would raise the state tax on cigarettes by 73-cents per pack.
Supporters think that will generate around 300-million-dollars a year for public schools.
