Magicians run out of luck in overtime

With D.J. Helmer and Jake Ross both scoring over 20 points for Port Byron on Tuesday in an opening round matchup against Herkimer, the Panthers defeated the Magicians in overtime 82-79.

Port Byron, the home team, got a very tough showing from the Magicians. By the time halftime came, the Panthers only had a 38-33 lead.

That lead vanished when the Herkimer 2-3 zone defense frustrated Port Byron, outscoring the Panthers by 13 points (20-to-7), giving Herkimer a eight point lead into the fourth quarter.
After a couple changes to their game plan, Port Byron again beat the Magicians in scoring in a quarter. This time it was the fourth quarter.
