New Hartford's Whittemore named Player of the Year

Clayton Whittemore has been New Hartford’s go-to player on the hockey rink all season.
The Spartan’s high-scoring forward was rewarded for his efforts this week when he was named Player of the Year by the Section III, Division II coaches.

Whittemore leads Division II East in scoring with 28 goals and 18 assists for 46 points. Overall, the senior has 38 goals, 19 assists and 57 points.

New Hartford hockey coach John Cunningham said Whittemore relishes the role.

“He thrives on that. He wants to be that guy,” Cunningham said. “Obviously, he’s a prolific goal scorer. He’s been on fire as of late with five hat tricks in the last six games. He has eight on the year.

“He’s really stepped it up in the second half. He’s our go-to guy. He leads by example.”

Also named to the First Team All-Stars were Whittemore’s teammates Spencer Landry and Chris Luker. Rome Free Academy’s T.J. Reilley, Clinton’s Peter Hameline and Hamilton’s Alex Brink also were on the First Team. Rounding out the squad are Cazenovia’s Joe Nardella and Sean Cannizzaro.
