In its first Section III Division II semifinal appearance in three years, the Rome Free Academy hockey team will face-off against a familiar opponent on Wednesday when the Black Knights visit rival New Hartford in a 7:30 p.m. contest at the New Hartford Recreation Center.
The Spartans advanced to the semifinals with a 5-1 dismantling over the Christian Brothers/Jamesville-Dewitt hockey team on Friday night. Rome advanced with their 6-3 road victory over Corcoran High of Syracuse on Thursday.
The Black Knights, 12-7-2 overall, lost in their previous three meetings against the Spartans, 16-4-1 overall, this season, including a 6-5 overtime loss during the Utica College Hockey Tournament, a 10-4 blowout in New Hartford and a 4-2 setback on Rome’s home ice on Feb. 5.
