Rome Girls Track and Field Invitational
When: Saturday May 1st
Time: Events start at 2:15 and run all day until approx. 7:15pm
Where: RFA Stadium 500 Turin Road Rome, NY 13440
Here are the list of the teams committed so far to attend: 24 teams:
Adirondack, Beaver River, Bethlehem(section 2), Canton(section 10), Clinton, CNS, Herkimer, Ilion, Liverpool, Lowville, New Hartford, Notre Dame, NYM, RFA, Sauquoit, South Jefferson, South Lewis, Seton Catholic of Plattsburg(section 7), Tully, Utica Proctor, Watertown, West Canada, Westmoreland, Whitesboro.
This Invitational is one of the premier showcases for RFA track athletes as well as all section 3 track athletes that there is in Central New York.
We expect to have a tremendous event: 4 of the top 5 teams in AA (CNS, Lpool, RFA and Proctor, will attend as well as some of the best smaller schools that section 3 has with Tully, SOuth Jefferson, West Canada, Westmoreland, Adirondack and Clinton. We also have teams coming from 3 other sections. Bethlehem is one of section 2's best teams, Seton Catholic from Plattsburg who is one of the strongest section 7 teams in the distance events and Canton Central from section 10 who always brings some top caliber athletes.
RFA should perform pretty well, we usually place in the top 3 or 4 and should have a decent chance to vie for the title. CNS, Liverpool and Proctor are also contending for the title. Don't be surprised if Bethlehem doesn't suprise everyone with a title run.
We will have some many of the top performers in the state. Such as RFA's 4x1 relay team of Baker, SOuthwell, Gallagher, Razy. Proctor will have some outstanding athletes as well with Sukuri, Arthur and Heyward handling their Hurdles and jumping events. NYM pole vaulter Linda hadfield will make her return after sustaining a knee injury in field hockey last fall. She is the defending state champion.
The 100 and 200 events look to be outstanding with the top 2 large school sprinters (Jessica Razy and Geinnetta McClain from Proctor) and the top 2 small school sprinters (Lauren Delude from Herkimer Sheby Lommis or South Lewis.
This invitational is a great thing for Rome Free Academy as well as the Community. We will have over 600 athletes in attendance as well as their families, coaches and fans. All these people will eat locally on their way either into or out of town, and some will even stay the night at local motels.
The 1st race goes off at 2:15pm at the stadium with the final event going off around 7:30pm.
