A Central New York Police Department may be no more. The Village of Yorkville's Police Department is in jeopardy of getting cut. But, according to village Mayor Anthony Leone, he said Yorkville residents will have a say.

The community will vote to have their police force stay or be taken over by the Oneida County Sheriff's office. The Village of Trustee's voted to abolish the police department Tuesday night.

However, residents of Yorkville say they want their police department to stay.

"I would hate to see them go. They come in here all the time. They do their job," said Angelina Fellone, a worker at Tony's Pizzeria on Oriskany Boulevard.

Kalynn Kiley a local says it would not be smart to cut a local police department.

"I think it would have an impact on the community because they would have to wait longer for emergency response authorities. It can result into something devastating."

Before any cuts are made, Mayor Leone says the village must pass a local law first.

They started that process last night. Also, Mayor Leone explains they are working on a referendum for a public vote on the issue.
