It's the first village in Herkimer County to start the program.

Ilion is adopting the Complete Streets program.

This means new projects underway for the village.

Complete streets is a program to help make new roadways accessible to pedestrians and bicyclists.

Executive Director of Herkimer HealthNet, Adam Hutchinson, hopes it brings a positive outcome for the people of Ilion.

"The main effect is hopefully it will make the streets safer because the streets aren't being designed just with cars and trucks, " said Hutchinson.

The streets will not be redesigned but will be taken into consideration with future projects.

Hutchinson also hopes that this is the first of many other villages in the county to adopt the program.
