Utica firefighters responded to two separate and unrelated house fires on the same street.
Firefighters responded to the first incident at 11 Jewett Place. Fewer than twenty-four hours later, firefighters responded to a house fire at 24 Jewett Place around 2 in the morning.
The fire was reported by Utica DPW crews working in the area. One neighbor says he was sleeping at the time of the fire and had to evacuate.
"I had to get out my room because we live right next door. so, i had to get out of bed. i was afraid our house was going to catch on fire because our house is right next door. They broke down the door because the people that lived there was a wife and husband. They broke down the door and dragged them out," says 15-year-old Dalvin Gonzalez.
The first fire was under control a little after 4:30 a.m. No word yet on any injuries. Both fires are still under investigation.
