Unemployment Rate Drops, Jobs Added

By: Jennifer Lee
Updated: December 2, 2011

According to the U.S. Labor Department, the unemployment rate fell to 8.6 percent in November, while 120,000 jobs were added.

The unemployment rate has not dropped below 9 percent since March 2009. Congressman Richard Hanna issued a statement today after November's report.

"It's welcome news to see the economy adding jobs, but certainly more needs to be done to put Americans back to work. The unemployment rate remains outrageously high, and too many of our neighbors are looking for work or unable to find full-time jobs. What we need is growth," says Hanna.

He says he has introduced a bipartisan jobs bill called the AGREE Act. He is working with U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, who introduced a similar legislation in the Senate.

"Washington constantly talks about jobs, and The AGREE Act is a bill that a majority in Washington can agree on.  This bill will help the private sector do what it does best - create jobs.  I am hopeful that Congress will consider the AGREE Act soon," says Hanna.
