Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi is working to end the wage discrimination in New York State.
He says all workers should be paid the same rate to do the same work, regardless of age, sex, and race.
The Assembly Legislation would establish a state policy of setting salaries based on comparable work and make it easier to enforce equal pay regulations.
"Right now in New York State, women earn about $.83 for every dollar that a man earns, and that's not right," said Brindisi. "That means New York Women are losing out on $24 billion because of this pay disparity and these laws will help address that."
Brindisi says that experience, effort, and skill should be what determines a worker's wage, especially when many families are struggling to make ends meet.
