Herkimer Diamond named New York State mineral

The New York State Senate passed legislation, sponsored by Senator James
Seward, that would make the Herkimer Diamond the official state
mineral.
Unique to New York State, the quarts crystals from the Mohawk Valley are commonly referred to as the Herkimer Diamonds.
Senator Seward says the Herkimer Diamond is a rare treasure that deserves official statewide status.
Herkimer Diamonds are famous around the world for being some of the clearest quarts minerals ever found.
