As runners line up for the 35th annual Boilermaker Road Race on July 8th, many military members overseas will have already completed a mimic run of the race 6,500 miles away.

The fifth cycle of the Shadow Run will take place this year in western Afghanistan.

Executive Director Tim Reed says area military members started this idea a couple of years ago when they were deployed overseas.

"We've always had a great experience with the military in regards with the fly over with the F-16's or the navy band that played last year. We are really excited for these guys. It's an honor to support them. We just want them to all come home safe," said Reed.

Tim Reed says they expect over a hundred runners in this year's Shadow Run.
