Oneida County receives grants to clean debris in Sauquoit Creek

There is good news for Oneida County residents who were hit hard by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee last year.
The County has been awarded a National Emergency Grant by the state to remove debris from the Sauquoit Creek as a result of damage from the storms last summer.
One resident that lives along the creek says he hasn't seen it overflow like it did recently in the 63 years he's been in the community.
"It's a good possibility to run into a situation that we had here and being flooded out again. The businesses and houses here will get flooded out again and they will be paying big bucks to get these things taken care of," said Edward Thomas, a Chadwicks resident.
The Sauquoit Creek Basin Inter Municipal Commission plans on spending the next four months clearing the creek and picking up loose debris and garbage.
