The Boilermaker road race is honoring long- time
journalist Joe Kelly - giving
him the prestigiousLes Diven Award.
This award is given to the journalist who best emphasizes the spirit of the Boilermaker.
Joe Kelly has been involved with the boilermaker either covering, running or
volunteering since 1981. This is the first time Joe has received the Diven award and he
says it's a special time to receive the award given the race turns thirty five
this year. Kelly says, "Every year with the Boilermaker's special to me,
I've been involved with the race since 1981. It's helped shape my life and
helped shape the lives of many people for the positive I should say too. It's
done a lot for the community so any time you get an award from the Boilermaker
it means an awful lot." Joe will be formally
presented with the award at the final boilermaker committee meeting on June
21st.
