German Flats, Ilion, and the Ilion Central School District had a lot to smile about today.
All three have worked together for the past several years to have the new Frederick Bridge built over Steele Creek.
Community members celebrated at the ribbon- cutting ceremony this afternoon. They say the new bridge will eliminate many safety and traffic concerns.
"Very much a positive thing for the area and the community and for ilion. It's gonna help the traffic flow, and help the safety, I think that sidewalk is very nice, on the other bridge there was no sidewalk so it was pretty dangerous for the kids and for anybody walking," says Carol Moore, Ilion resident.
The Frederick Bridge will also eliminate the need for the narrow and decaying Philip Street Bridge which has been a safety concern because of its poor condition. Those involved say the Philip Street Bridge, located just one block over, will be demolished within the next week or so.
