Officials from the cities of Utica and Rome met today to discuss a "Regional Deconstruction Program."
A deconstruction expert from Washington attended the meeting and spoke about possible deconstruction targets in Utica.
Genesis Group volunteers say when you can't save properties, reclaiming them is a smart option. And talking with national experts (they say) Is the best starting point.
"The reality for us is we wanna do it, but we don't have any experience. So we looked, and did research, and found national experts who could help us understand how to do that. We want to give people the comfort level, that yes we can deconstruct buildings rather than demolish them," says Sam Russo, Genesis Group volunteer.
Russo says he hopes a deconstruction project will begin by the end of the fall. The former Roosevelt and Wetmore Elementary schools are possible deconstruction targets.
