A nearly $9 million project will bring affordable housing to the City of Utica. Today housing visions broke ground on the Genesee Crossing project. This neighborhood revitalization project will create thirteen new housing complexes. The project includes demolishing old buildings and revamping vacant lots.
Director of Development for Housing Visions Ben Lockwood says, "There's a lot of people that have low incomes that are trying to raise their families that work hard and do the right thing and they don't have access to affordable housing, if we can provide avoidable quality housing access, it can really open up their life's and do some other things that help them take care of their families." According to officials five of the units will be reserved for veterans. The project should be completed in eighteen months.
