Former U.S Army soldier Russell Marcum was in Herkimer County Court today where he pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary.
Police say Russell Marcum had been arrested for burglary and was out on bail. He was being transported to Fort Drum's home base where New York State Troopers say it would have been decided where Marcum would stay until his criminal matters were over.
Police say when he arrived at the base he assaulted the soldier driving him, stole a car, and took off. State police caught up with him near Route 92 and Route 20 where the manhunt began. He was heading east on Route 20 when he lost control of the car and began to run on foot. Authorities located Marcum in a field in Tompkins Count.
Marcum will now serve 10 years in prison and 10 years post-release supervision.
