It's not meant to replace boots on the ground, but it
does help keep Utica neighborhoods safer. That of course is The Armadillo used by the Utica Police Department.
Now UPD has acquired a second truck in hopes of making another armadillo. But
officials say the tough budget year means they have no money to transform this
truck into a high- tech surveillance vehicle. UPD says this truck came from Binghamton
and cost the department only ten dollars but it does need mechanical work. The
extent of repairs is unknown, but officials say the transformation is an
expensive proposition.
