Operation Christmas Child Relay Center in Mohawk

By: Rachel Polansky
Updated: August 9, 2012
Herkimer County community members aren't letting the economy get in the way of giving back. The Mohawk Reformed Church is inspiring people to donate through Operation Christmas Child. The program encourages people to fill shoeboxes with school supplies, hygiene items and small toys - and bring the box to the church. And each shoebox will be sent to underprivledged children around the world.

"Most of the children that I've been with have never ever received a gift in their entire life. And so to see them get this precious gift of new pencils and new pens and paper and a stuffed animal, they are just beside themselves with joy," says Patty Jennings, Operation Christmas Child volunteer.

The Mohawk Reformed Church at 20 South Ostego Street will serve as a relay center for Operation Christmas Child. Community members can bring gift-filled shoeboxes to the church starting now through November - which is when the boxes will be sent to children around the nation.
