Democratic Congressional Candidate Dan Lamb visited an area farm this afternoon to talk about his opposition to hydrofracking. Our region sits atop the Utica and Marcellus shale formations - and Lamb says New York may soon permit the controversial process of hydrofracking. He says there are federal loopholes allowing the fracking industry to skirt baseline environmental laws.

"My candidacy is about protecting this region from industry and exploitation and making sure we do the proper research before we go forward with this industry," says Dan Lamb, Congressional candidate.

"I appreciate his issues on environmental issues. Anything that has to do with unproven methods of drilling into the ground, we would support anyone who wants to wait until the environmental issues are resolved," says Pat Schmidt, Deerfield resident.

Lamb believes the statewide moratorium on drilling should remain in place. He says he hopes environmental studies will be conducted before drilling takes place so policymakers can know all of the risks involved
